3. WHAT DRIVES YOU?

By Brooke Dorratt

I’m back with Real Estate professional Dean Yeo, for the third 90 second goal achievement tip.

Dean Yeo: Hi, everyone. It’s Dean. I’ve got Keith with me. Now, this one is what drives you?

Keith Abraham: Here’s what I can tell you from the research we’ve done. There are eight core drivers that drive people to do the uncomfortable, the inconvenient and the unknown. These are the eight drivers people want to feel. So when we talked in the previous tip about the emotional connection to a goal, being compelled to it and what’s most important to you, you have to start with the driver.

What’s that emotional driver? Most people want to feel one of these eight drivers. They want to feel successful, they want to feel purposeful, they want to feel inspired, they want to feel happy, they want to feel organised, they want to feel respected, they want to feel confident and they want to feel relaxed.

So rather than set a goal and say, “I want to earn one million dollars”, come back to this. Come back to this process and ask yourself, how do you want to feel this year?

Of those eight drivers, how do you want to feel? I want to feel successful. Right, then that’s a wonderful emotion. Tell me, what’s the goal that you need to achieve in your professional life to be able to feel that you’ve been successful this year?

And then off the back of that, you then do the 9-Part GoalDriver Formula. So in actual fact, this is the missing link. Because until you know your emotional reason why + your emotional driver, you’ll never truly be committed to the goal.

UNTIL YOU KNOW YOUR EMOTIONAL REASON WHY + YOUR EMOTIONAL DRIVER, YOU’LL NEVER TRULY BE COMMITTED TO THE GOAL.
