2. ARE YOU COMMITTED, COMPELLED & CONNECTED TO YOUR GOAL?

By Keith Abraham & Dean Yeo

I’m back with Real Estate professional Dean Yeo, for the second 90 second goal achievement tip.

Dean Yeo: Hi, everyone. It’s Dean. I’ve got Keith with me. So here is committed, compelled and connected.

Keith Abraham: I love it. The three Cs. Here’s what I can tell you about goal setting. Most people talk about S.M.A.R.T. Goals, and I don’t want to deflate anybody, but S.M.A.R.T. Goals don’t work! And I’ll tell you the reason why they don’t work. It’s because we’re emotional creatures, you and I. We can experience 135 different emotions as an adult. Of those 135, about 64 of them are positive, the rest are negative. So for the last 17 years, I’ve researched why people achieve and why they don’t achieve, especially around high performance.

What I can tell you is the people who achieve the most, their goal has three parts to it. They have an emotional connection, a mental connection, and a physical connection. In other words, they have feel, think, do. Heart, head, hands. Why? What? How? And so when you have an emotional connection to your goal, you become committed, compelled and connected to it. You have a relationship with it.

I have a process called the 9 Part GoalDriver Formula, and not to talk about it now, but one of the things we get people to work on is what’s their driver, and there are eight specific drivers. We might talk about them as one of the other tips, which might be really handy for people to know what drives them to achieve what’s important, what matters, and what makes a difference to them.

WHEN YOU HAVE AN EMOTIONAL CONNECTION TO YOUR GOAL, YOU BECOME COMMITTED, COMPELLED AND CONNECTED TO IT. YOU HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH IT.
