THE 4 AREAS OF LIFE PEOPLE LIVE IN

THE 4 AREAS OF LIFE PEOPLE LIVE IN

There is that age-old question, are leaders born or made? I think they are made through a set of circumstances and situations that flicks a switch to bring the best out of them. So does the same apply to passion?

I don’t believe so.

I believe we are all born passionate and at some stage during our life we either fuel the fire or we let it die down to nothing. I look at my two daughters and see the passion in their eyes for the things they love to do. I see adults, who after so many years, reconnect with their passion and get a second lease on life with an amazing amount of energy to burn regardless of their age.
So how do people lose their passion?

My take on this matter is that our lives are divided into 4 areas …

  1. LOVE: I believe there are things in our life that we love to do. The things that give us the greatest joy, that we are passionate about, that energise us and recharge our batteries.
  2. LIKE: Things in our life that we like to do. They are still enjoyable, but we are not as passionate about them as the things we love to do.
  3. HAVE: Things in our life that we have to do. There are things we have to do to reach a goal or achieve an outcome. They don’t give us that much joy or energy, but we know that it is all part of the process and the price we need to pay.
  4. HATE: Finally there things in our life that we hate to do. These are things that if we had a choice we would not do, we would delegate it or outsource it. It has to be done but it is pain and a drain on us.

IT IS NOT ABOUT HAVING TIME IT IS ABOUT MAKING IT A PRIORITY, IT IS ABOUT MAKING A DELIBERATE CHOICE.

Now I am not saying you should stop doing all the things that you have to or hate to do. But I do know that when people lose their energy or passion it is because they have nothing in category 1 or 2. The simple act of completing tasks in these two areas gives us the ability to do the uncomfortable, the inconvenient and it recharges our spirit, batteries and passion for life. So we can push through and do those things that don’t give us joy. You know when people are flat, unenthused and have lost their zest for life, my prescription is simple … what do you love to do? Most of time the reason why people are not pursuing their passion is built on a story they have sold themselves.

People come up with excuses … I don’t have time. Do you get this, you will never have time! It is not about having time it is about making it a priority, it is about making a deliberate choice. You will never get back the time from doing the things you love to, however you will get back the energy, the love and the joy so you can do more with the time you have.
